How do I connect my laptop to the internet?
MY SON IS AN ANGEL IN HEAVEN < asked:
I have a regular desktop computer that has a router and everything. I just cant seem to be able to connect my laptop to the internet. The laptop keeps saying there is no wireless access point. How do I get connected to the internet? (And yes the wireless switch is turned on). Thank you.

Many routers do not turn on wireless before you complete the setup wizard. The easiest way to do it is connect a computer to the router directly (through an ethernet cable). Then, open internet explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar. You username password is probably admin/admin, admin/1234 or admin/password. Once you log into your router, you can run the setup wizard.

Is it a wireless router or a wired-only router? Not all routers are wireless. If it’s wireless, connect to it with the desktop (http://192.168.) and make sure that wireless is enabled. It can be turned off (but should be on by default). And it’s always possible that the router is just broken and there’s no wireless signal coming from it. Colanth
If your router is wireless enabled, and still your laptop, is not detecting it. Try these steps, (anyone or all might help)
* Try connecting to internet via the LAN cable, and chk if it works. If Yes, your laptop, is fine, its just the problem with your router configuration (may be)
* Its just that, there may be a mismatch between the country of your modem and your laptop (i mean the time zone).
* See if your access point is not hidden in your router, if yes disable it.

First Step:Connect Your laptop to the internet using the cable.
Second Step:Search for the latest drivers for your WLAN board.
Install them.
Or just use the DVD-ROM provided with the WireLess Router.
Or ,the worst case…Your WLAN board is broken…You’ll have to get your laptop to the shop where you bought it… Microsoft Emloyee number 0473927
