well you could simply plug your laptop into the wall via an ethernet cable, or if you want wireless internet, all you need to do is purchase a wireless router. this one here would do what you need just fine... Taylor S

Ok your internet connection comes through the Cable into a Cable Modem. That's the like box the cable guy installed for your internet.

Some Cable Modems have built in Routers. A router is like a traffic cop it tells the internet traffic where to go and how to get there. It is also a two way radio, it sends and receives radio signals to devices that can do the same and routes the signals to the appropriate places. It does all of this through its own software that is inside. ikeman32

It really doesn't matter, but a lot of people say a mac book, I would suggest a laptop with a big screen, maybe a 17" and one that has a blu ray player.

this one is good

That software your brother is using is probably Adobe Photoshop

Snag a decent Dell. Dell has cheap prices with good quality, and you can customize fairly well. For that price, you can get a sturdy laptop that's going to last you several years. HP is crap, Comcrap explains itself, Alienware is mostly for gaming... Dell does laptops right. AvalonA

Re-boot means to turn off, then back on!

Insert the first recovery disk and restart the laptop. Make sure to set the DVD/CD drive as a first boot device in the BIOS*, so the laptop boots from your recovery disk. After that just follow the wizard. For newer Toshiba laptops you can press F12 on startup to select the boot device.

*On start up keep tapping either F1, F2, F10,(Be Aware that some manufacturers use F10 for system recovery!) Esc, or Del, to enter the BIOS set-up. Look for "Drive configuration", "Boot order" or similar and make the CD/DVD drive the first boot device. Save settings and exit. arou42

If you had correctly started up from the MacOS X DVD, then the "repair hard disk" line would be dark and not grayed out. Restart after inserting the DVD and hold down the "c" key during the entire start up. Then use the disk utility program which is on the DVD, not the one that is on the hard drive. Have it repair your hard disk. That should solve your problems. If not, go to and try their free version of TechTool. Kahless

I had a toshiba for three years and I loved it, the only reason I don't have it anymore is because I gave it to my parents and got a mac. I've heard from several people with hp's that they weren't satisfied with their laptops. My suggestion is to find some in your price range and then read the reviews for that specific price range. Jenny

Macs are quite expensive.
I just use a cheap Acer, and have never had any trouble with them (5 years now) and I also download a lot of music and work with CS3 etc.

Minimum requirements would be 4gb ram, dual core processor (Pentium/Athlon etc) and at least 250gb hard drive, with and external hard drive for back up/storage. 17" Screen.
If going for windows, go for windows 7, and NOT Vista.

Hope this helps. veito da costa
